Powerseller Profiteer Newsletter
How 10 minutes sitting down in front of your TV could reveal a
hot eBay niche
Hello!
On the rare occasion that I actually manage to wrestle the television
remote control from my children, I’m always terribly disappointed with the choice of what to watch. Considering
we have ‘Sky’ which equates at the last count to about 9 million channels it always amazes me that I can’t find
anything remotely interesting and I usually end up surrendering the remote back to the children so that they can
continue to feed their addiction to Hannah
Montana or I end up flicking through every channel marvelling at
the absolute rubbish before my very eyes.
I remember stumbling across one of those shopping channels last summer
and discovering that they were advertising all manner of Christmas nick-nacks and decorations (17 foot singing
reindeer with flashing nose, inflatable snowman – you know the type of thing) and it was only August.
But, that’s the thing. These seasonal products were being advertised in
August because there was a demand for them. These shopping channels are cute enough to know when they should
advertise a particular product or they wouldn’t do it. There are loads of these shopping channels all selling
really weird and wonderful household gadgets, jewellery, slimming aids, clothes and more – I’m sure you’ve seen
these yourself at some point or another…go on admit it!
Anyway, these products are generally known as ‘As Seen on TV’ (ASOTV)
products – a generic name for items that are advertised on television for direct-response mail-order, usually through a free phone number. You
are very likely to have seen some of these products yourself as they are easily recognizable by the packaging
which includes a red seal in the shape of a television screen with the words "AS SEEN ON TV" written in
white. The products themselves can range from kitchen, household, cleaning, health and beauty products, exercise and fitness
products, books and toys and games for children.
The great thing about these ASOTV products is that they are in fact proven hot
sellers. What’s more these are just the sort of products that you should be considering selling on eBay.
What kind
of ASOTV products should you consider selling?
I mentioned
previously that ASOTV products are proven hot sellers and this is true even though the products themselves can be quirky, ingenious, or just plain daft! The great thing is that
these products often end up on eBay and sell for 10 times the original or recommended price offered on
the shopping channels.
You need
to learn how to determine which As Seen On TV products will sell well sell on eBay, when to sell them, what
eBay sites to sell them on, and how to make the big profits.
I know this is a fantastic idea because I have sold some of these
products myself on eBay in the past with great success – mostly with household or kitchen gadgets.
It all started on eBay.com when sellers started sourcing and listing
ASOTV products and found that they absolutely flew out the door. Buyers were seeing them advertised on the
shopping channels and then buying them cheaper on eBay!
3 steps to researching ASOTV
products…
1. First
search eBay completed listings for As Seen on TV products that have already sold and check their final value.
Simply click on ‘Advanced Search’ at the top of your eBay page and type in the keywords ‘As Seen on TV’. Then
put a tick in the ‘completed listings’ box. Click ‘search’ and your results will be returned. Green results
show items that have sold and their final values, red results show unsold items. It’s best to sort the
results by ‘price highest first’ – just choose this from the drop down box – so that you can see the highest
price that an ASOTV product has sold for and the popularity of a
product.
2. Next,
you need to go over to some of the international eBay sites such as eBay.com (
USA), eBay.ca
(Canada) and eBay.au
(Australia). Once again search the
completed listings to see what is selling well.
3. Make
sure you pay attention to the advertisements you see on TV and especially the products being advertised on
those shopping channels and take note of what is popular, then you can research those products on eBay too.
What these steps will do is build up a picture of the kinds of products you will be successful at selling on
eBay.

But where can you find these products at
wholesale?
I’ll tell you! There are actually quite a few websites where you can
source these products at wholesale prices. All you need to do is a quick Google search for ‘as seen on tv
products wholesale’ and you’ll get a good selection. They are mostly based in
the USA so you will need to check
out their shipping policies.
First though, make sure you visit the official As Seen on TV
website www.asseenontv.com and take
a look at their products to give you an idea of their best selling products, most popular and featured
products. Everything is categorised so easy to navigate. You can then use this information to choose the top
products you should research.
Here are a few sites that you might like to consider to get you started
once you have done your research:
http://www.asseenontvwholesale.com/
If you are a member of www.wholesalepages.co.uk/ you’ll find loads of
suppliers there too.
www.wholesaledir.com is also a good place to start your search. Some of these sites
require you to join their wholesale programs but don’t worry they are free.
What you must remember is that trends come and go on eBay and what’s hot one
month might not be so hot the next and this is true for ASOTV products too. There are always new products being
released for sale so you do need to keep your wits about you and your eyes peeled for potential hot eBay
sellers. You absolutely must check out and research which are the definite
hot selling products before you go ahead and source them to ensure that they will sell when you list them on
eBay.
So, there’s a proven niche for you to get started with and as always I
wish you the very best of success,
Amanda
