How You Can Achieve eBay Powerseller Status Fast!
Hello!
Well, after a really busy couple of weeks with the pre-launch of
my new eBay course I thought I’d better have a quick catch up with the recent ‘goings on’ at eBay HQ.
If you already sell on eBay you will know that eBay have in the past been prone, on
occasion, to catching us all a little unawares with changes to the site. However last year they promised that they
would only implement 3 major changes per year in future and would give all members prior notice of any changes - to
give us more time to organise ourselves and make any necessary tweaks if required. And, I have to say that so far,
eBay have been true to their word with their first announcement which came earlier this week.
So what was the ‘big announcement’?
Well, the first big announcement from eBay for 2010 came on Monday and in my opinion
it’s good news for us all and will in fact make the task of achieving Powerseller status much easier. This is great
because with this status you will of course have access to all the benefits that come with it.
This week, eBay announced that from April, the sales criteria for reaching
Powerseller status will be lowered - yes, you did read that correctly! So, instead of needing to sell 100 items a
month or £750 worth of goods to make the basic Bronze Powerseller level, you will only be required to sell 100
items per year - yes you read that correctly too! - or £2,000 worth of goods per year to fit the bill.
Here’s the twist…
But of course there’s a twist, don’t worry though because I feel that it’s still all
good news. The new criteria will require eBay sellers to maintain an average DSR (Detailed Seller Ratings) score of
at least 4.6 out of 5.0 across all star ratings to qualify for Powerseller status, instead of the current 4.0
standard. Now you may think that 4.6 seems a little on the high side for something that you as a seller have no
real control over - after all, it’s your customers who give you your star ratings and you only need one idiot who
thinks it’s a laugh to mark you as a 1 star on P&P costs even though you are offering free postage, for your
score to drop - but, if you are serious about eBay, are being professional and are maintaining excellent customer
service, which includes fast dispatch times, accurate product descriptions, answering queries promptly and not
charging excessive postage fees, then I am certain that you will have absolutely no trouble keeping your DSR’s to
at least 4.6 overall.
What does this mean for you?
The good news just keeps on coming! If you are just starting out on eBay or you
haven’t quite taken the plunge yet because you are worried about how to get started, then understandably you may
not yet have a large inventory of products listed (for those of you who have already secured your copy of my new
course - The Ultimate eBay Success System - you will be aware that I cover exactly how to build your product
inventory, repeat the process and earn as much as you want using my simple strategies). But, having fewer products
and fewer listings means that currently it may take you a few months to build up to a quantity of 100 sold items or
£750 per month in sales allowing you to actually achieve Powerseller status.
Honestly, you might have the best customer service in the world, dispatch orders the
same day, offer free postage and have fabulous DSR’s all topping 4.9 but at present this doesn’t count towards your
upgrade to Powerseller. This can put you at a small disadvantage when competing against the established sellers who
have a large product inventory which is bringing in a huge volume of sales and ultimately who have already achieved
Powerseller status. What’s interesting though is that that some of the major Powerseller’s DSR’s are dire - yes
they are making a fortune in sales but their customer service leaves a lot to be desired - so they will definitely
have to buck their ideas up from April!
Anyway, my point here is that from April this year, the playing field will become
somewhat more level. As long as you sell 100 items a year - that’s only 8 items a month - totalling £2000 in
revenue - that’s just over £166 a month - and at the same time keep your DSR’s at 4.6 or above then you will become
a Powerseller and this will open up a whole new world for you.
It get’s even better….
With the achievement of Powerseller status you may also qualify for Top
Rated Seller Status (TRS). Confused? Don’t be, it’s simple. TRS’s are eBay sellers who offer outstanding service at
all times, have high DSR’s and avoid receiving low DSR scores such as 1’s and 2’s. Having the Top Rated Seller logo
next to your listings immediately instils trust and confidence in buyers and you will see your sales increase
without doubt.
Another benefit is that once you are a TRS you will be able to take advantage of
extras that will help you increase the visibility of your products further, such as using ‘Featured Listings’.
Until October last year, any eBay seller could pay a fee for a featured listing for their product and this would
shoot you to the top of the search results - i.e. to page 1. However, when eBay implemented the TRS programme,
featured listings became limited to TRS’s only.
But listen to this; from April, because it will be far easier for you to achieve
Powerseller status and Top Rated Seller status, once you have got those under your belt, you’ll then be able to
immediately take advantage of featured listings too which will instantly put you in a better position in the search
results and will set your sales on a roll. Something that you deserve for being such a brilliant seller! Seriously,
there has never been a better time for you to really cash in here.
Remember that you do have to pay for featured listings but at present eBay haven’t
mentioned any price increases and it is a fantastic way to gather some impressive sales history on your product
listings which ultimately will move you higher up the searches naturally. You certainly won’t have to use featured
listings continuously once you have enough sales history to reach page 1.
What you need to do now
If you are already selling on eBay, go and take a look at your ‘Seller Dashboard’ (to
do this, click on ‘My eBay’ and then click on ‘Go to your dashboard’ underneath your ‘Seller Dashboard Summary’ on
the top right of your page) because this will update you as to exactly how close you are to becoming a
Powerseller.
You’ve got around 2 months to look at your listings, improve your customer service if
necessary and increase your sales volume if required to ensure you will be offered Powerseller status when the
changes occur in April - so use those 2 months wisely because you will soon benefit if you put in a little extra
effort now.
Just before I sign off, if you are still wondering how to get started on eBay, what
to sell, where to find hot products or you need some help with expanding your business and putting new strategies
in place to increase your sales then take a look at this and see what I’ve been working on for the last few months
to help you make at least £5,000 per month on eBay.
